Every child should feel 'This is my church too'!
This term, we’ve had two new children join our Aslan group – and it’s reminded me once again why we do what we do.
Both of these families had found attending church too difficult. They’d more or less given up trying… until they came to ours. In one family, there are three siblings, and in the other, two. Now, because of the provision of 1:1 care and support offered in Aslan, all these children – and their parents – can come to church together. Each person can be part of a group that suits them. It’s such a joy and privilege to bless these families in this way and to see the difference that inclusion makes in their connection to church life.
Every child deserves the chance to learn about Jesus
I hope that my experience encourages you. Even after more than 12 years of leading Aslan, I still feel passionate about creating a safe, calm, and welcoming space for children who might find other groups a bit overwhelming. Every child deserves the chance to learn about Jesus and to know how deeply God loves them — and I love being part of making that possible.
Caring, adaptable, and dedicated leaders
I would encourage any of you considering setting up a group to make a start! When we first began, we only had one boy and it still felt so worthwhile even for just one child. Over the years, numbers have gone up and down as older ones have left and new ones have then joined, but God has always provided exactly the right number of caring, adaptable and dedicated leaders to keep this ministry thriving. I’m continually thankful for His guidance and provision.
In case you haven’t seen them yet, these articles on the website give a lot of information on how to start a group and how to run a session:
